As a psychology major, you join a community of scholars, mentors, and peers interested in understanding how people and groups think and act. This pages serves as a hub for essential resources including department policies, academic advising, as well as student opportunities such as research, community engagement, and study abroad.

Academic Advising

Faculty advisors and peer advisors help students explore their options and offer guidance in decision making. After declaring a psychology major, students receive an advisor to assist with course selection, major requirements, and future planning.

Student Opportunities

Undergraduate Research Funding

Through a generous gift from Robert S. Feldman ‘70 and Family to the Department of Psychology, The Feldman Family Fund provides resources to support undergraduate research. Dr. Feldman, a distinguished social psychologist, is Senior Advisor to the Chancellor at the University of Massachusetts, as well as Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Feldman was previously Deputy Chancellor of the University and before that, Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He graduated with a psychology major in Wesleyan’s Class of 1970, before going on to earn his PhD at the University of Wisconsin.

How to Apply

All undergraduates involved in research in the Psychology Department at Wesleyan are eligible to apply for this funding. Students should consult with their research advisor before applying so that the advisor can coordinate student requests.

Psi Chi Honor Society

The Wesleyan chapter of Psi Chi acts as a “majors group” to discuss psychology and graduate school, and to be actively involved in psychology department events. We also distribute information about the psychology department and provide information about jobs and graduate schools in psychology.

Membership is open to psychology BA/MA graduate and undergraduate students, provided they meet certain standards required by Psi Chi and the Association of College Honor Societies (a governing body for college honor societies). Membership is an earned honor that lasts for life. A permanent record of your membership is preserved at the Psi Chi International Office and may be used for reference purposes in job and graduate school applications.
